The 2022/2023 season has finally come to an end for Arsenal. There’s been many highs and some lows but most connected with Arsenal can feel a great sense of pride as the Gunners mounted a legitimate challenge for the the Premier League title against the odds and strong progress has been made with UEFA a champions League football returning to Emirates Stadium for the first time since 2016.
Arsenal’s final match of the season got off to a strong start ten minutes in, as the soon-to-be departing Granit Xhaka heading in a cross from Gabriel Jesus to give his side the lead. And it got even better for Arsenal and the Swiss as a deflection found it’s way to the Arsenal midfielder for him to slot home his second to send the Arsenal fans wild in appreciation for the man who’s seven year stay in North London will be ending soon.
And Arsenal weren’t done there in the first half as some brilliant combination play between Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard ended with Saka curling a great effort past Jose Sa and into the top corner to make it 3-0 and cap off a clinical first half from Mikel Arteta’s side.
The second half for Arsenal started like the first with a brilliant through ball from Jorginho found Trossard who’s cross was met by Gabriel Jesus at the back post to net his 11th goal of the season and make it 4-0 to Arsenal on the day. Soon after, Granit Xhaka was substituted and was given a rapturous send off from Emirates Stadium as his transfer to Bayer Leverkusen nears completion.
Mikel Arteta’s side still weren’t done there though and after a slight scramble in the Wolves penalty area following a corner, Jakub Kiwior struck home his first goal for Arsenal to make it 5-0 to the Gunners as they ended their season on the best finish possible.
Second place, 84 points, 103 goals scored in all competitions, it’s been a great season for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners and here’s hoping next season is even more successful.
